Description

Fractal Move Clockface motivates you to develop fractal variability in your movement. When your movement has fractal properties it is more adaptive and resilient, which can be very useful both for fitness and everyday life.

Just tap "Record" and start moving. The device's accelerometer will record your movement dynamics. The more different patterns you can fit into the last 32-second period, the higher your score. The clockface also shows your current heart rate and the minutes you spent in each zone during recording. It also syncs to your exercises in the FitBit app.

Fractal variability is calculated based on how various movement patterns repeat over a period of time (32 to 128 seconds). If your bigger movements over a longer time scale look similar to the smaller movements over short time periods, your movement is fractal. This means your movement dynamics is self-similar across different scales and that you're sensitive both to small changes in your environment as well as the big impacts.

We use the DFA algorithm to calculate fractality, which is widely used for measuring heart rate variability (HRV) — one of the most effective health metrics. We apply the same algorithm to measuring movement based on the assumption that it may be interesting to replicate your inner body dynamics also in your movement for full harmony across different scales of body-mind operation. Please, note, that this app is not to be used for health and fitness purposes, it is a game that is designed to bring more variability in your movement and in your life.

Note, there is also the Fractal Move app if you prefer to launch it rather than having it as a clockface.
